Brand history

Audemars Piguet

Audemars Piguet was founded in 1875 by two young watchmakers, Jules Louis Audemars and Edward Auguste Piguet, in Le Brassus, at the heart of the Swiss Vallée de Joux. The company remains owned by its founding families to this day, something exceptionally rare in the luxury watch industry.

From the outset the manufacture specialised in the most complicated movements: perpetual calendars, minute repeaters and tourbillons. In 1972, however, one audacious move would revolutionise the industry.

Designed by Gérald Genta, the Royal Oak was born: the world's first luxury sports watch in stainless steel, with its distinctive octagonal, screw-fixed bezel and Tapisserie dial. The more robust Royal Oak Offshore followed in 1993.

Today Audemars Piguet represents the summit of hand-crafted watchmaking, where every piece unites the centuries-old tradition of the Vallée de Joux with the boldness of modern design.
